PARENTING 101: TIPS TO MAKE IT TICK

Parenting is an experience of a lifetime. It’s one that simply goes on irrespective of how old your kids get. Your skills as a parent undergo their litmus test when you’re raising your toddlers during their tender years. The experience can be overwhelming since your patience, understanding, and empathy are literally put to the test. While this experience sounds as hard as it seems, there are certain measures to be followed in order to get right.

Here it goes:

  1. Set an example: Your toddlers tend to imitate what you do. All those activities which you consider mundane are often considered “cool” by your toddlers. So take a look at other households, other parents, and see if there’s something out of place in your list of behavioural traits. This is because the right habits and traits, when picked up by your kids, can work wonders.
  2. Being balanced: Being too strict can kill all the liveliness at home while being too flexible can give your kids the carte blanche to do almost anything. It’s important to find that balance in your attitude which makes your kids perfectly understand those dos and don’ts.
  3. Go with your gut: Logic doesn’t always help find a solution. Sometimes, it’s important to pay attention to those finer details and take a call based on what you “feel” may happen. This is importantly, particularly with your tiny tots, since they are at an age where feelings are on full throttle.
  4. Take it easy: Parenthood is one of those very few experiences that can afford activity at an ocean’s pace. So it’s critical that you take a breather, pause, and capture all those moments which last a lifetime.
  5. Look after yourself: You can’t run those miles in parenthood when you’re burnt out yourself. Ensure that you’re in great physical and psychological health so that you can provide those wonderful experiences for your kids.
