THE ART OF MAKING KIDS LEARN
Seeing your kids throw tantrums about doing their cute little chores and getting done with their homework isn’t new at homes around the world. At the same time, seeing you kids kick and scream through their chores and homework isn’t a pleasant sight either. Both of these problems tend to make the child build that dreaded wall between them and their parents. Doing this at an early age can cause serious harm to your kid’s mental well-being and form opinions about parents from a very young age.
In this article, Happy Cubs explains how parents can kindle a thirst and love for learning in kids and creating a positive atmosphere at home.
STEPS THAT MATTER
- Slot out a “learning time”: Kids are usually happy when they are not denied of their fun and frolic privileges. This is only possible when parents slot out times for fun, entertainment, and most importantly… learning. In this way, kids get their fair share of everything and learn the importance of scheduling at a very young age.
- Choices, rewards, and benefits: Push your kids to do their homework and excel by offering them rewards for doing so. Also ask them if them to choose where they would like to finish their homework in and around the house. Constantly reiterate the importance of academics and getting good grades through realistic examples. This ensures that your kids develop a sense of understanding and act accordingly.
- Give them their space: Kids love being independent as much as they love asking their parents for things. Despite their minds being tender, kids love their space. When parents have a tendency to get nosey, kids usually turn disobedient and rebellious which ends up being unhealthy for both sides. It’s important for parents to understand their kids through careful observation and offer assistance only at the right time
- Developing feel-good factors: It’s highly important to make your kids feel good about themselves. Despite being tenacious, they tend to get disheartened in a trice when things don’t go their way. Developing feel-good factors for your kids could be anything from praising them for doing well in science, buying them gifts when they ace a test etc.
- Fostering academic independence: This aspect highlights your abilities as a parent and can work wonders for your kid. Academic independence is all about training your kid to think for himself and crack nuts thus developing a level of intelligence just keeps shooting upward. Doing everything for your kids isn’t going to help as they may not learn even a smidgen of what they’re supposed to. Teach your kids, point them in the right direction, and let them work their way out under careful observation.
- Creating a positive environment at home: Turn your home into a happy-go-lucky household where smiles and cheers run the day’s grind. Kids cannot learn if they’re distracted by problems at home. Creating the right atmosphere helps your kids remain positive and learn with unparalleled attention as well as interest.
THE UNDERLYING IMPORTANCE
Developing your kids’ love, zeal, and thirst for learning is where it all begins. Be it academics, sports, hobbies, or interests, learning is what helps your kids build themselves at a psychological level. While the benefits of learning at a tender age bring a smile on your face, the true benefits show up in heaps when kids grow in age. In order to achieve the above, taking the aforementioned steps is absolutely imperative.
